The Story

Akashi whisky is produced by the Japanese distillery White Oak, located on the island of Honshu, in the city that gives its name to the famous spirit. The distillery was founded in 1888 by Eigashima Shuzo, initially distilling only sake, and then adding whisky production in the 1980s. The birth of Japanese whisky is due to the initiative of a chemistry student (Masataka Taketsuru) who, after the First World War, decided to travel to Scotland to learn the methods of producing malt-based spirits. Upon his return to Japan, he opened a distillery, and from there whisky production began in the land of the rising sun, which was famous above all for other types of spirits. Akashi is an extraordinary blended whisky obtained from the expert blending of various grain and single malt spirits, with a percentage of malted barley of approximately 30%. Nearly half of the whiskies used have been aged in American oak barrels. One of the peculiarities of the production of this whisky is that the stills operate only one month a year, resulting in a very limited production. This makes it a sought-after product, with its main consumers being true connoisseurs and lovers of this type of spirit. Akashi is powerful and oily, with very sweet and pleasant notes, a true pleasure especially for trained taste buds, capable of absorbing all the extraordinary aromas and flavors of this blended whisky.
