The Story

The Chianti Superiore wine (a title attributed for its alcoholic strength and quality) of the Banfi winery is produced in Tuscany. This region, located in central Italy, has always gifted the world of wine with precious gifts of excellence. The Banfi agricultural company is one of the producers of these excellences. Located in Montalcino (Siena), it was founded in the late 1970s, in 1978 to be precise. It currently covers 2,830 hectares. The name of the company, printed on the bottle of the wine, is a tribute to the founders' great-aunt (Teodolinda Banfi), who, as an expert in the sector, introduced this environment to her nephew, who subsequently also opened a company linked to the wine trade. The grape varieties selected for the creation of this harmonious drink are Cabernet Sauvignon, Canaiolo Nero, and Sangiovese. The fruit of this combination has led to the wine being designated DOCG Chianti Classico (Classic and Guaranteed Designation of Origin). The transformation process from juice to wine of Chianti Superiore is carried out with traditional contact of the skins for a period of eight to ten days. The berries are selected manually before vinification. In the phase following fermentation and preceding the bottling stage, the Chianti Superiore is aged in French oak barrels. A peculiarity of the Banfi winery is that the oak wood undergoes the treatments necessary for the creation of the barrels directly in the cellar: we are talking about seasoning and drying. The wine is then bottled in the summer following the harvest.
