Bollinger's emblematic champagne name, with its English spelling, encapsulates its entire history. It was Georges Bollinger's British agent who, in 1911, christened it 'Special Cuvée', as he felt that the expression 'brut non vintage' was not appropriate for a champagne of such refinement.
