The Story
Barbera D'Alba is a still red wine with a Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC). The origins of this grape variety are quite ancient, but the first mention of it is found in a 17th-century document preserved in the Town Hall of Nizza Monferrato. From this red grape variety, the Massolino winery in Serralunga d'Alba, with complete respect for the environment and the ecosystem, produces a structured wine made exclusively from Barbera grapes, harvested by hand around mid-October. The vinification of the grapes and their subsequent maturation take place in stainless steel tanks, the ideal container for preserving their natural fragrance. The process lasts 10 to 12 days and is carried out at a controlled temperature of 32°C to 33°C. Afterwards, before being released for sale, it undergoes rapid maturation in the bottle. This special Piedmontese wine is released annually between the spring and summer months following the year of production. Barbera D'Alba is a successful wine, known and appreciated internationally, consistently receiving the highest accolades from industry critics. A renowned wine of high quality, it perfectly expresses the unique character of the Cuneo region. Listed among the Piedmontese excellences, it is produced from vines grown on soils rich in deposits of rather compact grey-yellowish sands which give life to an alcoholic beverage that stands out for its vigour, its structure and its longevity, also thanks to a microclimate particularly suited to the cultivation of vines.
