The Story

This Fernet Liqueur is produced in Veneto by the Negroni Antica Distilleria company, founded by Guglielmo Negroni way back in 1889, in the heart of the Treviso area. This typical aloe-based liqueur, with its distinctive, bold flavor, has notable digestive properties. Fernet has always enjoyed great success, thanks in part to the fact that, since its inception in the mid-19th century, it was even used as an anti-cholera. The reasons for this liqueur's success in Italy and around the world are linked to the fact that the very Italian Fernet gradually reveals its predominant character and its warm, pungent pleasantness, making it one of the absolute protagonists of the end-of-meal drink. Fernet Negroni liqueur is made from the infusion of a complex variety of roots and spices, including notes of rhubarb, gentian, mint, and licorice, along with Treviso red radicchio juice extract and the addition of Treviso grappa. Although the precise quantities of the various ingredients and the specific preparation method are unknown, some information has leaked out. The preparation process involves macerating all the herbs in alcohol. The resulting infusion is then aged for at least a year in large oak barrels, with the addition of more alcohol, sugar, and natural colorings.
