The Story
This Sfursat di Valtellina Fruttaio Ca' Rizzieri is a still red wine, with a controlled and guaranteed designation of origin and produced in the Lombardy region in the cellars of Aldo Rainoldi. The history of this wine is quite young: it dates back to around the mid-1990s and is produced only in the best years, from the careful selection of the best grapes from Nebbiolo vines. The Sfursat di Valtellina Fruttaio Ca' Rizzieri Rainoldi is made only using grapes from 100% Nebbiolo vineyards. Cultivation takes place in loose, acidic soils, at an altitude of around 500 meters from the sea. Before proceeding with the vinification, the ripening of the grape bunches is prolonged, consequently delaying the harvest; Subsequently, the grapes are left to dry for approximately 90 days to increase the sugar concentration and reduce the water content. The uniqueness of this dry wine lies precisely in this technique, which is performed on special racks at Ca' Rizzieri, 500 meters above sea level: here, the dry and well-ventilated climate creates the ideal atmospheric conditions for the natural drying of the grapes. The wine is then aged first in French "Allier" oak barriques for 15 months, then in bottle for at least another 12 months.
