The Story
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Mazzamurello takes its name from a playful elf in Abruzzo tradition believed to be hidden among the barriques, playing with the wine inside. Persistent and balanced, this still organic red is characterized by a single-varietal blend: 100% Montepulciano. This grape variety is undoubtedly one of the most important in central Italy, grown primarily in Abruzzo and Marche, and seems to prefer a warm, dry climate. Difficult to interpret, it depends on many factors—soil, climate, altitude, techniques used—and on top of all this is the complexity of cultivation, where the slightest detail is enough for the wild nature of the grape to take over. It prefers a clayey-calcareous soil for its growth, with an Abruzzese pergola training system. Vinification in steel with cold pre-maceration and maturation in barriques with batonnage on the fine lees for 20 months allow it to achieve natural stability; all of this has led to this wine being classified as DOC Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Rosso. Born in the province of Pescara by the Torre dei Beati company, which takes its name from a tower featured in a fresco in the local church of Santa Maria in Piano, the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Mazzamurello is the first and most famous wine produced there. Only the best grapes of the vintage have the honor of composing this red wine famous throughout the country.
