The Story

The Chianti Classico Villa Antinori Riserva of the Marchesi Antinori aims to be a return to the origins. The family opened a new winery in the Chianti Classico area and thus wanted to highlight a historic label. The first vintage of this wine was produced in 1928. Until 2000, the product represented the Antinori family's idea of Chianti Classico. The blend is composed of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet. Its designation is Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva. The vines are grown in the historic area using the Guyot and spurred cordon pruning methods. The land is located at an altitude of less than 700 meters, as required by the production regulations. The soils are composed of a mixture of clay, limestone, sand, and arenaceous substrates. This allows for good water drainage, preventing harmful stagnation. The climate is particularly favorable. The good exposure and high temperatures in the months of July and August favor the good ripening of the grapes. The strong temperature variations between day and night also contribute to the stabilization of sugars and aromas. The harvest takes place between mid-September and early October, depending on the climatic conditions of the year. Typically, the Sangiovese grapes are picked first, followed by the Cabernet ones. The two batches are vinified separately until the malolactic phase. This takes place in stainless steel for the Sangiovese and in first- and second-passage barriques for the Cabernet. After blending, the wine ages partly in large barrels and partly in barriques. Bottling will take place in June 2 years following the harvest.
