The Story
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is grown throughout practically the entire Abruzzo region. It is made from Montepulciano grapes, a typical Siena grape variety imported to Abruzzo between the late 18th and early 11th centuries. Cantina Zaccagnini, a winery in the Pescara province, offers its Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Tralcetto as one of the finest examples of this DOC red wine from the Abruzzo region. The blend is 100% Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. After fermentation in steel tanks with constant temperature control, it spends 4 months in wooden barrels and concludes the preparation phase with bottle aging. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a bright red wine that takes on warm tones with age. Its aroma is pleasant, fruity, and full. The flavor is dry, velvety, and slightly tannic. This wine ages well, even beyond ten years, reaching its peak flavor between its third and fourth year. When very young, it is discreetly an excellent wine to accompany any meal, but when fully mature, it is particularly suited to game roasts. The cultivation of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Tralcetto is favored by the climate found in the vineyards of Cantina Zaccagnini: the proximity of the Maiella mountains and the Adriatic Sea creates an optimal environment for the growth of this important red table wine.
